My mother and Grandmother saved it to use for cooking other things. A coulpe of times when we were out of vegetable oil, we'd use a Tbs. or so of bacon grease to make popcorn. Granted, tou don't want to do it every time but it sure tasted good.

Hey hey hey, wait a minute!

We've been pouring it into a jar and when the jar is full of the hard stuff, we pitch it. Don't want to clog the sink...

But you're telling me that I can refrigerate and use this bacon fat for to make delicious?! :O

Please, recipes...recipes, people!

My mother had a crock full of bacon grease nest to the breadbox, at room temperature, and it sat there through my entire childhood. She never used anything else for cooking, and after use for frying, it got poured right back in there again. By the time I went away to college, the bottom layer must have been 20 or 30 years old, and it was used almost every day.

My grandma used to keep all bacon rinds and fat, and added crumbs, scraps of bread and goodness knows what else, then she'd put it out for the birds in the winter. They loved it

In the olden days at my grandmother's house there were three canisters on the counter top all the time. Flour, Sugar, and Grease. Back then Grease was a way of life and not considered a dirty word. Seems it was good for her. She made it to 93 without any major illnesses. We always save and use bacon drippings for flavoring. Right now I'm smelling some as the wife is making stir fried yellow squash in it with onions. Great combination. Bacon is the base for tomato gravy for rice or grits.
