I have to say I don't use a jar. I do get tomato sauce and paste from the can. But I slice my own mushrooms, onions, and garlic... as well as brown the meat.
Kids actually like my spaghetti, too, so that's a bonus!
I have made it from scratch, but found a formula which is perfectly acceptable.
Meat, onion, garlic, a jar of sauce, a big can of crushed tomatoes, a can of diced tomatoes, oregano, basil. Simmer for awhile.
We have a brand of sauce here called Mids. Their sauce with meat is just as good plain as any sauce I've ever made, so when I'm rushed I just dump that out of the jar.
I always joke on here about my McPasta...that would be from the Jar... lol... but I do make attempts once in a while... nothing I would ever serve to the Hubby's Italian Aunts... that is for sure... just good enough for my own little McFamily....LOL...The hubby is very encouraging...even still, I don't do ANY pasta for the Italian Aunts...that would just be doomed to flop.

They make sauce in jars??? J/K. I usually make my own, but once in a great while, I pull a jar from the back of the cupboard when neither one of us feels like cooking.
I tend to always make my own and use Rao's San Marzano tomatoes but if by chance I use a jarred I'll only use Rao's Arriabatta sauce-it is awesome with shrimp.

More often than not I make pasta with sauce that isn't tomato based so it's do it yourself, tomato sauces can go either way depending on what's in the farmer's matket and/or cupboard.
Jar and me. Mostly jar. Though I'm not a great cook, I prefer my own spaghetti (jar and all) to almost anyone else or any restaurant's spaghetti! Go figure!
