I have always been a strong diet drinker, until I learned about aspertane. The artificial sweetner in diet sodas. Known to cause cancer. Well now I am trying to cut back but I just miss it sosososo much! Anyone else bothered by this or am I just crazy?

You might do a search in the Health and Wellness section. There's been a bit of discussion about this and other similar products.

That is one of the big reasons I don't drink any soda and did not give it to my kids. Fruit juices and water work just fine! It's like any addiction melbon, it takes time to get over it but you will.

Diet Rite Cola has no aspartane in it. It may help you wean-off the other products.

I've noticed some soft drinks on the shelves with the Splenda logo on them.

There is a lot of misinformation being spread about these artificial sweeteners, encouraged I am sure by the sugar and high fructose corn syrup producers. A very few people have sensitivity to aspertame, but most of us do not. I am happy that artificial sweeteners provide alternatives to carbohydrate consumption. As a diabetic it allows me to eat sensibly and control my disease.

Do your homework before believing everything you read, including what I have posted here. Don't take my word for it. But be sure you are checking with credible websites, not those set up to spread hysteria.

Question What is wrong with high fructose corn syrup?

It is a simple sugar that we all need, and on the glycemic index soda ranges from 53 to 63 (average 58), so it isn't high. All the carbohydrates in soda comes from high fructose, which isn't bad either. In fact, the only downside I see is the caffeine, which we really don't need, but even then a 12 ounce can of soda has three times less caffeine that a single 8 ounce cup of coffee. Even the sodium content in soda is low, not nearly as low as coffee, but still under 4% of what is recommended daily.

I think going to all these artifically sweetened drinks causes more problems than it solves. Unless you have diabetes, you need simple sugars in your blood to function normally.

I'm allergic to high fructose corn syrup and aspartame.

I also have concerns about aspartame. It is in babyfood and is considered, by many, to be a neurotoxin. I have more links I'll try to find and post.
