Here we go again with things NOT to eat. November issue of "Prevention" magazine lists with some detail why, 7 things that should not pass our lips. The one that concerns me the most is "canned" tomatoes, as I have been using them for years.. The article tells why and to try to find off season tomatoes in glass jars or those waxed cartons. Well my local grocery doesn't carry them that way and the nearest Whole Foods Market is almost 2 hours away. Guess the next time I am there I will try to stock up. Anyway the article is well worth reading to rethink the way we eat.
Thanks for the atricle. I become very leary of all of these warnings. Sometimes they are true and then years later we find out some were wrong.
If it makes sense and I can afford it I will change. I have been eating canned tomaotes, regular potaotes, and regular apples for years. I'm still here. I think the key to most things is moderation.
If I can grow my own I will but I will not pay the organic prices.

I ignore them.
Good or bad, everything flip-flops back and forth, usually several times. Depends on who is financing the study, in my opinion.
You are all going to hate me, but I do all of those things, except for the tomatoes. I have never heard of that. Who knew?
I'm not the crunchy-granola type, but have become increasingly leery of corporate America feeding us. It probably costs me $10-15 more a week, money that we don't have (trust me) but we've got a kid and I just can't see buying some of their stuff, especially their meat and pork. The best solution is a local farmer. And I cut out some of the junk that we used to buy to make up the difference.
I notice when buying organic tomatoes in the tin, that the inside of the can is white in colour .. so the tomatoes are not sitting up against the metal of the tin.
Not sure what the white coating is, but assumed it's there for better protection.
