What types of ethnic grocery stores have you been in, outside of the country whose food they sell? Also, did you enjoy how they smelled, or find the odor rather disgusting?

I've been to an Italian, general East Asian, Indian, Somali, and Russian grocery store, mostly in Minneapolis. As for the smell, only the East Asian supermarket turned me off (and nearly made my mom faint).

Last month we went to a Chinese Supermarket. They had tons of meat in the back, I've seen bones before but nothing compared to what was in there, huge pure white bones, it was surreal lol.

One that specialized in east Asian foods, to include Polynesia. And, as above, Mexican. They had a large Mexican population in that town, and had stores that catered to them specifically. Had many of them as neighbors, and I spoke the language, both with them, and at work.

I forgot Mexican (or Latin American). I've been to Mexican / Latin American grocery stores as well.

i have been to an asian market that sold everything from produce to fresh and live seafood. i have been to hispanic groceries, and Italian, and there was a place called International Foods that we used to go to--i LOVED it. practically every country (well at least continents) had their own isles and their own specialty items. you could DEFINATELY tell when you were in the Indian section! the smells are very strong and spicy

Well, since I lived in the Bay Area in my early youth, probably all.

Default Mexican wasn't mentioned

I used to go into the one at the corner of High St. and E14th, in Oakland CA.

I was very very broke; I could buy $2 of ground beef at the meat counter. It was my treat for the week.

All basic ingredients; no "convenience food."

I've been to almost all of those markets. Grew up in San Diego and live near Dallas now, so I've been very blessed when it comes to marketing.

The only one I really hate the smell of is Indian. That's just about the only ethnic food I don't like too.

Check out Super H Marts around the US for great Korean and East Asian items.
