I wanted to give Jaime a big hug. Poor baby was near tears trying to get through to those people. Do parents seriously not teach their kids to use knives and forks anymore?
I wanted to give Jaime a hug, too.. poor guy did actually cry, I felt so bad for him.
I was disgusted by some of that show.. there is NO WAY my 4 year old daughter would have eaten those nasty nugets that he made from bones, skin, and blended.. OMG. I can't believe how horrid some of those kids eat. PIZZA for breakfast?! I think I did that a few times in college- everyone does, right? But I was 18 years old. I was shocked that a school gave children pizza for breakfast- whoa! My school never did that?! I can't believe the way that family ate, either... that little girl was my daughters age (4) and she looked like she was 8 or something. My daughter is TEENY (29 pounds) so that other little girl looked so big to me.. so sad.
I'm glad they're allowing him more time.. they still need serious help. But, I was so glad it appeared the kids were eating more and trying more of their lunch in the last day (it looked yummy to me!).
As always, it is important to remember that this is entertainment. They deliberately look for the most exaggerated circumstances, and edit for the most dramatic effect.
Also, the emphasis on weight is disheartening. The statistics in that town are the responsibility of everyone. Not just the fat people. Focusing on weight gives the thinner people a 'free pass' when in fact they are living the same lifestyle and are just as unhealthy.

Definitely there is the TV angle, but Mr. Oliver I had heard about him helping to bring on some big changes in the UK and I think it is something near and dear to his heart and not just a vehicle to make money or more kudos for himself.
Yeah, obviously for shock value, they pick the worst aspects. But I see those people march in and out of our hospital every day. They are not some slim (ha ha) select few. And strangely, a lot of them bring food with them.

I'm going to do that!
That floored me that those kids ate for dinner exactly what they had for lunch...chicken nuggets. And in the "extended" version of the premiere, those kids couldn't identify the vegetables!
I felt so bad for Jamie when he was crying. Those lunch ladies were tough as nails. Then they were showing his sweet daughter.
We need a wake up call in this country about the way we eat, and thank heavens SOMEBODY wants to try and give us one.
I may live in one the most expensive places in the United States, but at least we have tons of exposure to fresh fruits and vegetables and all kinds of different ethnic foods to eat.
