I am the kind of person that loves to try new foods, but the first time I saw peanuts in coke, in Alabama, I about fell over. I did eventually try them and I have to admit it's not bad. It seems to be very common here in TN too.
Boiled peanuts on the other hand...bleh, not to my liking at all.

My best friend is from Birmingham......we were touring around somewhere in the south, maybe Virginia, S. Carolina or possibly Georgia, I can't remember. We stopped at a fruit stand that advertised warm, boiled, salted peanuts because she wanted me to taste them......(she loves them). Well, I can say I've been there and done that and don't like them. (I was raised in California). They, being members of the legume family, tasted exactly like beans....kinda like beans that hadn't been cooked enough.... She got to eat all of them and was in hog heaven....it's definitely an acquired taste......(I don't care for sweet potato fries either).....LOL

Its common to boil them where I live but personally I prefer to roast Georgia goober peanuts myself. Most oversalt boiled peanuts which spoils the favor for me.

Salted Spanish Peanuts in my Goodberry's Malted Chocolate "concrete" (It's an ice-cream thing, kinda like a DQ Blizzard.) I would have never thought about Salted Spanish Peanuts, but they are great.

Love me some Boiled P-nuts too.

That's what this forum is all about exploring new regional dishes. Thanks everyone for the great information. I love cultural food history. I tried plain and roasted peanuts in Coke and Dr. Pepper yesterday loved them both. It reminded me of long summer nights with friends camping out in back yards during the late 70's as kids. It is definately a nostalgic food!

When I was a kid, getting a coke of your own was a treat ( I had to share with my brother ). Rarely we could get our own drink and snack. I liked a coke with peanuts, but since I never got to choose my own drink, when given the choice, I went with White Lightning (kinda like mountain dew) and it was not good with peanuts.

Growing up in southern NC, I have harvested peanuts and eaten them any which way you could think of preparing them. My favorite was right there on the farm. The owner (family friend) would start a pit fire and would roast them. Those were some of the best evenings of my life. Fresh, pit roasted peanuts that we just brought in from the field. Boiled peanuts... eh, that seemed like a waste of a potentially roasted peanut.

Not coke...RC Cola.

I've lived in Alabama or Tennessee my whole life and can't stand those nasty boiled peanuts.
