What do you think is the total cost (per year) to maintain a 10,000 sq ft home in Fort Collins? I was looking at houses in the area and saw this home. It looks like a pretty decent deal compared to other houses in the area. Another thing i'm worried about is the building material. Do you think it was made cheap?

Thanks.

alright, I'll bite.

Note that the location on the map of that listing is not right. You're A LOT further out of town, which is going to be a lot more driving for everything. But it is right on the blue sky trail, which would be awesome if you are a mountain biker or trail runner!

I have no idea what the cost would be, but I think this might be the wrong location to ask. If you could afford a 1.3 million house, are you really worried about the maintenance costs?

Call the listing agent. He/she should be able to get that info from the current owners. Nice pad!

Your costs will depend somewhat on your energy consumption. This house is heated with propane, so if you like a warm home, plan on more heating fuel. Water comes from a well, so you will not be paying by the gallon, but you will have to maintain the well. The exterior appears to be relatively low maintenance, with stucco and stone and composite decking, but this climate is harsh on wood, so the deck posts and fascias will need to be stained on a regular basis if they are wood.

Checkout the history of the builder. If he has been in business for ten or more years and he must be a decent builder. If he isn't he will have been sued many times and there will be a paper trail.

Looks like a nice property to me.
