Good day all,
We're heading to Fort Collins over the Christmas break and I'm looking for things to do. We'll be checking out neighbourhoods/towns etc to get an idea of where to live, but once that's over we'll have 3 or 4 days to just enjoy. Two adults and a 15 yr old boy. Any ideas? Anyone know of a dog sledding place nearby, or snow mobile trip?
Thanks in advance and have a fab weekend.

I live in town, and - so far - have not heard of any dog sledding or snowmobile activities. I'm struggling to think of really anything special to do in a winter-way. Maybe some of the long-timers here can come up with some ideas. The activities might be far away from town (Red Feather Lakes area?, Wyoming?) Otherwise, you can go to the big city (Denver) for some signs of life and activities, though maybe not quite what you are looking for.

Activities seem limited in this town, but with three or four days available, you would have ample time to drive to another area that might have special and fun activities. That might also include places on the western side of the state (Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs, maybe even Aspen, Vail).

FC isn't set up for that.
Thanks Sunderpig, we are heading up to Steamboat for a few days as well to do some skiing and snowmobiling so we don't mind driving for a while, but still looking for local stuff to do with my daughter as well.

There is PLENTY to do in Fort Collins. Plenty.

Here's the city calendar with both government and entertainment options listed.

Here's the calendar from the downtown folks in Fort Collins..

Just google this for a whole lot of info>

Not much snow close by for dog sledding or snowmobiling. Those activities are usually found more in the mountains rather than down here on the plains.

Here are a few ideas about some local activities from the local newspaper:
15 things to do in Fort Collins in December
Must-do winter hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park

If you are a sports fan, CSU has some basketball games coming up:
CSURAMS.COM - Colorado State University Official Athletic Site Colorado State University Official Athletic Site - Men's Basketball

The local dinner theater has "A Christmas Story" on stage this month:

There are outdoor ice skating rinks at the mall at Foothills and in Old Town, if you like to skate.

Winter Farmer's Market:

You can take a carriage ride through Old Town and enjoy the lights. Even just walking through downtown this time of year is enjoyable. The Christmas lights are beautiful and the shopping and dining are nice.

Enjoy your visit!

Thanks all. Looking forward to it. We will also be checking out neighbourhoods with a view to moving there possibly this summer so we will have a jam packed week ahead of us!

When searching for locale... My kids always liked to checkout the public pools, sports arenas / practice fields, bike routes, hiking, and libraries (me too).

Head to Estes Park via Horsetooth / Masonville. Devils Backbone is a nice hike near that route. We rented snowshoes in Estes and headed to Bear Lake area of the park.

I prefer to head to Steamboat via Walden, rather than Denver. You can make a scenic round trip. With several routes. Consider looking into skiing snowmobile at Winter Park while you are out and about.

Be aware that highway 34 is being re-constructed due to flood damage and has been completely closed for the past few months, and will be closed until next year, with a few exceptions. The road will be open this weekend and next weekend, but with pilot car service and potential delays.

True. You pretty much have to go through Longmont / Lyons these days to get to Estes.
