Getting deeper into my research before deciding on an area to buy a condo or townhouse in the area. Does anyone know a quick and easy tool to determine the percentage of renters in a particular development. I've come to know the value of this info form my current place of residence. Only a handfull of renters, but in each case...trouble. The people who own, on the other hand, make it a nice little community.

You're so right (the last place I lived went to crap as the percentage of owners declined).

I think it's likely you will need a real estate agent to delve into this information. Especially right now, with the market so volatile and investors buying up a ton of units to rent them out.

It can make all the difference. I live in a safe community and I chose my condo because it's quiet and well maintained. Never had problems until a few units went rental. Across from me are some young slackers...not really any trouble, but they're always attracting sketchy looking friends hanging around and getting high. The unit above me rented out last year to A WANTED FELON! He had warrants out for multiple burglary charges and his girlfriend had her own warrants out on her. There was constant partying throughout the night and my car was vandalized three times because I complained about the noise. When they finally hauled the guy away to jail and the GF was evicted for non payment of rent, I made sure a police officer friend who was looking for a place moved in....quiet again and no more pot partys next door now either.
