Hi - my husband is going to be interviewing for a position near Plantation FL. Just wondering what would be good areas to live in that are not a long commute.

You could find what you want right in Plantation. Plantation is a lovely area especially if schools are not important to you.

Davie and Plantation both are wonderful choices... You will find more newer homes in Davie than Plantation but you will probably have to go up in the price a bit more.

When I looked in Davie and Plantation Acres I found the opposite. The houses in Davie were older than those in Plantation Acres (except for West Ridge and Long Lake). I was looking in the $800-$1 million range. Perhaps at the lower price point Davie has more newer homes.
At any rate I think the OP can find a nice home in Plantation or Davie.

You won't have any trouble finding a home in that price range. Florida has the highest rate of foreclosures second only to California. Get yourself a good R.E. attorney and enjoy Plantation.

You would think that it would be easy to find a home with the market the way it is, but it can be very very difficult. There are lots of short sales that are sitting out there as active listings. Even though there are are some good deals to be had it can be very very difficult to actually buy something right now.
I also think the OP will find something nice in Plantation or Davie but I am concerned about her being shocked at what her money will actually buy here. She is currently living in a new, custom 6000 sf home. She will not find a new, custom 6000 sf home in Plantation for $500K no matter how much the media says things are desperate here.

Momma_bear put it very correctly.... I just did a mls search and didn't see anything that meets OP's critera.. Here is what I found as the closest options... First three are regular sales while the last 2 (including an under construction home) are shorts sales:

The homes are large in SW Ranches but I don't think the op will find a 6000 sf house in SW Ranches for $500K. There are plenty of large homes in Plantation and Davie but they are out of the OPs price range.
Cooper City doesn't really have that many large homes. The OP might find what she is looking for in Country Glen in CC though.
