A double-deck I-95 from Miami to Fort Lauderdale would substantially improve the quality of life for South Floridians. Benefits includes: (1) No more spending money on acquiring right of ways, (2)Rising sea levels would have little (if any) effect, (3) Hurricane evacuations would substantially improved, (4) auto lanes would be much wider, (5) tolls lanes may still be used, and (6) a bullet train could be added to the top or bottom.

It would cost billions. I only know of a few elevated roadways, the most familiar one being the Pulaski Skyway. It's part of Route 1 in north NJ and leads to the Holland tunnel in Manhattan. It's also old and in danger of failing and trucks are not allowed on it, and it's an eyesore.

It might as well invest in better Public transportation than wasting on billions of dollars on continuous road construction.

It would make too much sense which is why it won't happen. A modern train system would make far more sense. An elevated train line from downtown Miami to downtown Fort lauderdale, and additional lines going out west and to the beach. South FL has become too big to not have such a system.

Well to be honest it sounds nice but because South Florida is already built out it would billions of dollars to install such a system you might as well just put a high speed rail line instead connecting the downtowns. All Aboard Florida is a start but I don't think its true High speed rail but I may be wrong.

Red face Double-deck I-95 from Mia to Fll

Seven to eight million people (residents and tourists) in South Florida are locked between the Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the lands in South Florida are less than eight feet above sea level. As a result our land supply is limited. Therefore we must utilize existing lands by increasing its density for future growth. Building new roads is not the answer. Making them efficient and multi-functional should be the primary objective. South Florida can learn from the New York City and Los Angeles transportation experiences.

No, I rather have a metro rail system across Broward County. They right there will alleviate the traffic on I95.

AAF will be high speed just not in SE Florida if you consider 80 MPH "high speed" since it has to slow down due to the amount of street crossings. Still better than nothing.
What our Tri-County area needs is a transportation Authority like New York & New Jersey have in PATH
(Port Authority Trans-Hudson) where they control the toll roads + mass transit.
MDX in Miami-Dade county rakes in Millions in tolls a year yet doesn't share that with MDT ( Miami-Dade Transit).
It's time to merge both agencies for efficient transportation in Miami.

This would be great and would actually cause a positive shift on the culture(?) down here. Maybe not but such a system would be incredibly useful.

Does I-95 merge into the Florida Turnpike in part of S Florida. On the map it looks like it merges for awhile, and then separates again. Just wondered since I know the Turnpike is a toll road and I-95 isn't. I try to avoid the toll roads.
