My parents are looking to move to Florida from the MS Delta to retire. They want to live around other seniors. Retiring in Florida is somewhat of a family tradition and my nana died in Tamarac, they looked there but apparently it has become a ghetto.

Any nice senior communities in Broward or Dade? Under $150 or $200 thousand preferred.

I wouldn't recommend Dade or Broward.

Perhaps Palm Beach County.

Century Village in Pembroke Pines is your best bet for that budget. A better option would be "The Palms at Weston" but the prices there are over $300K.

As someone who grew up in Broward county, it pains me to say it, but I would second the previous poster who recommended avoiding Broward and Dade. Palm Aire in Pompano is nice, but it is surrounded by serious crime. Kings Point in west Tamarac is still nice, and a safe area.

Another option would be the west coast of FL - Naples etc. Sleepy and very safe.

I will second Century Village in Pembroke Pines. And if you can stretch the budget a little, then The Palms at Weston, I see one bedroom units there for $230,000 and up and a 2/2 for $269,000, that would be my choice.

I have a client that lives in Palm Aire and it is gorgeous! Lots of retirees and although some of the surrounding area is not as nicely maintained, Palm Aire itself would still be considered safe. You can't get into a building unless you're buzzed in.

We also have a home in Weston, so any place in Weston would have my vote. As far as being well-maintained, well managed and safe, very few other cities in Broward County can compare to Weston, IMHO.

Make sure you also factor in the monthly condo association costs in your budget. I know in speaking with my client that the fees are high in Palm Aire but it covers the amenities, upkeep, insurance and security, etc.

Wynmoor Village in Coconut Creek may be worth a look. It would fit into your budget.

If you can't find anything you like in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach, consider looking at Stuart. There are quite a few over-55 communities in your price range up there, and it's a great place if you prefer more of a small-town atmosphere.

Sunrise Lakes may be worth checking out. Also, look in Delray Beach. There are tons of retiree communities there, and unlike Broward County, the areas around it are nice. Traffic is also far less.
