Considering that the current government in Oakland Park won't do anything to enforce the speed limit on Oakland Park Boulevard to slow down the traffic and make it safer for everyone, I'd like to suggest that the city buy up those empty lots that have been for sale for years along strip mall, fast food alley Oakland Park Boulevard, build some grandstands that the city would charge spectators to sit on to watch the high speed drivers racing by in order to bring in some money to the city that it's not getting from speeding tickets that the police aren't writing and give out prizes to the drivers who can make it from l-95 to Dixie Highway faster than anyone else on Oakland Park Dragway, which would be the name it should be changed to from being Oakland Park Boulevard since there's nothing on it anyway that resembles what most cities put on their streets they name boulevards to make them look like boulevards instead of a six lane highway, which is what Oakland Park Boulevard actually is, which sits just a block from an elementary school and residential areas in that stretch of road.

There isn't really anything in the way of street landscaping to block view of the spectators so no trees would need to be cut down. There's no bike lane to worry about removing to allow the cars to race even faster than they do now because Oakland Park isn't following the lead of it's neighboring cities to try to get people to use other modes of transportation to lesson the amount of greenhouse gasses going into the atmosphere from motor vehicles as there aren't any bike lanes on Oakland Park Boulevard and since I've never seen a police vehicle stopping anyone on Oakland Park Boulevard to write a ticket that the funds from the fines go into the city coffers instead of the county coffers like the property taxes in Oakland Park do, the city doesn't have to worry about assigning it's officers elsewhere to ensure their safety, which is probably why the police are never on Oakland Park Boulevard anyway. There's also no worry about the elementary school being so close to a dragway, which is what Oakland Park Boulevard is right now anyway, as I've never seen a child walk to or from that elementary school as the parents line up in their cars to pick up the kids in the afternoon and drop them off there in the morning.

By having their own legal dragway, maybe the crazy drivers that want to speed through the neighborhoods of Oakland Park can get their speed fix legally on Oakland Park Dragway and leave the residents of the residential areas of Oakland Park in peace by staying off the side streets.

A speeding car recently was going the wrong way down one of the side streets during the day next to the children's playground on the street that runs next to the Oakland Park Library behind the Oakland Park City Hall and totalled a car that was traveling north to south past the library that the speeding car going in the wrong direction slammed into. The guy who was speeding jumped out of his own smashed up car carrying a screwdriver, quickly unscrewed his license plate and ran off with the license plate, thinking this would prevent the police from tagging a hit and run offense on him. How clever!

One of the librarians told me the sound of the wrong way driver's car hitting the other car, "sounded like a bomb going off."

Did the police get this hit and run driver who left the scene of a terrible accident he caused? You betcha! But it wasn't the police who nabbed the guy, it was concerned bystanders who took off after the guy, caught him and brought him back to the scene of the hit and run for the police to arrest who came to investigate the accident.

Turns out the hit and run guy had also gotten out of his car and punched a woman, probably because she actually dared to walk somewhere in Oakland Park, along his route before his wrong way head on hit and run by the playground which the police attributed to the driver's use of crystal meth that they arrested him for, along with the hit and run accident.

It has been recently reported in newspapers and on the local news that traffic accidents have increased in this area but ticket writing by police officers in the area has decreased.
