WTF.....I have never heard of such a thing, when I was young, i received lots of homework, but i didn't complain about it. Yeah this why i can't stand the education system down here, and then the 4 day work week for the children, that's not very smart either, they really don't care about the quality of education down here, how the hell are these students intend on passing college courses and getting accepted into very good schools especially IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS ,,,,they are too soft on the children down here...

It would be a better use of their time if teachers and such debated on how to teach kids to read instead. As far as I know, an unbelivable number of high school students in Broward can not read well enough to understand a high school text.

The problem is two-fold. It starts with the parents. Unfortunately we have a large % of kids who come from families who don't value education, so the kids learn the same values and don't take school seriously. The parents aren't involved in helping the kids assure success, often times because they didn't graduate or go to college themselves. School is treated as a miserable job that you have to show up for everyday, but you don't put much effort into. Meanwhile, the kids who are serious are held back to some extent by the others who act out in class and don't want to learn.

The second half of the equation is our ultra-conservative state government that doesn't invest in education and has the same outlook as the states of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. They'd rather underfund education and waste the money on something else. They pay our teachers dirt, and it scares away good teachers who seek jobs in other states. Ultimately it seems as though they want to privatize education so that the state does not have to pay for it and so that private institutions can make a quick buck. They also have no problem with dumbing-down our populous since FL has no manufacturing base, only service-based jobs that do not require much education.
