Hey friends! I know it has been a really long time since I have been on here, but I was just wondering how things are in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Is the employment situation still the same? Are the houses going up or are they still coming down? I would so love to move, I just can't without a good job. So, please enlighten me if you can. Hope everyone is doing well!

Oh Berry - I'm so glad! I'm still thinking! I just have to do it at the right time. I'm so happy for you and your family it sounds great! I just need the job situation to look a little brighter and I can make my move. I did take advantage of the cash for clunkers program LOL - I traded in my '97 jeep cherokee for a 2009 Versa - I love it. That had nothing to do with anything but I figured I'd share. How old were your kids again? I have to get on the ball!

Things haven't picked up in South Florida yet, however real estate prices are improving (salaries need to improve)....Take your time, Florida isn't going anywhere, anytime soon . Hope things improve for everybody's sake. I'm working on my way out. The wife is already out of state.

Good move, they're great cars. I know you're happy you have more space to park now. Parking is no longer the PITA it once was(unlike w/the Jeep)

You are absolutely right LOL - I love my new car - it is deceptively roomy and great on gas. It is awful to hear that not much has changed there. I wish it had or at least seemed as if it were moving in the right direction.

Good to see you back, Chelsa! I had wondered what happened to you. Miles wrote me not 2 days ago and said if I see you again that I should pass along his regards!

As to your question, I think things are slowly improving. Salaries are down, but so are house prices and prices in stores. People are charging less for services. It seems like we had a mini-depression sort of. Maybe it was needed as everyone is saving more and shopping more carefully. With that said, the employment picture here is flat. We're surviving, but not thriving.

Same ole, same ole - I'm so disappointed that it isn't better, I so want to go, but I'm destined to be in NY yet another cold winter. BOOOOO - please send Miles my regards as well. I can't believe he is still on here.

I know, I thought he was gone for good, but is back under the user id, Moderate Guy.

On the bright side, I bet there will be a huge surge in hiring if this turns into a real recovery.

Fauve, you're a scholar and a lady for remembering me and relaying my regards.

To the OP, yeah..some of us are all still thinking of moving down there one day...maybe as snowbirds if unable to do the full deal. Economy still bad, real estate not settled, etc.

Went down there last summer, sat on the beach in my one-piece that grandpa handed down, asked all the gals who passed by if they were from Queens, NY.

One called the cops and I got booked on a section 445...some law down there about being a public nuisance in outdated beach wear!

Oh well, I'm back in NYC...good luck OP, keep the flame for Florida going...the right moment may not be now, but for tomorrow, never say never.

Best.
