Friday night at 10:15 there was a drive by shooting a few blocks south of commerical just off of Andrews ave. Two cars drove by and fired 7 shoots into a house. If you read my other post "Worst neighbors" you will know why. Two years and over 30 complaints to Oakland park BSO for the neighbors being drug dealers and NOTHING was ever done. It was just a matter of time before this happened.

that is such a shame... i know the area well.. i mostly knew that as a great area.. from andrews to 6th and commercial to prospect is a really nice area.. i guess it gets a little bit better after 1st terrace but i thought it was only because of andrews being right there.. besides that construction on andrews and commercial should be done by now right? the roads should be cleaned up at least..

one thing i do remember is that ''pain center'' on commercial, on the inside of that extention there.. next to lord's chiropractic.. that place was always a drug haven.. i know the guy that owns lords always complained about the junkies piling up outside that place ..

Well, the drug dealers foreclosure is complete. they are gone. It ONLY took a year. The area is ok. My realtor called it a "working class" neighborhood. The problem now is that within my two blocks there are 4 foreclosed homes. One house sold for $66,000. SO, you can have a house bought for $75,000 in the mid 90's up to a $265,000 bought in 2006 and now they are selling for under $100,000. It makes for an odd mix. Everything from a retired couple in a nice cared for home to a run down home next to them with 7 cars parked in their yard and lord only know how many living in the house.

Sure they weren't burglars?

No burglars. I know their car and they sang church hymns while they cleaned the car. The was nice but, does not make up for the drug dealing and gang violence they have put our neighborhood thru for the past 2 years. They came back again today.
I cut the front yard, edged, raised the shutters (they have been closed for 2 years) cleaned up the trash in the front yard and put up a alarm sign that they had in the yard overgrown with weeds.
To be honest, this is a quite nice neighborhood but, they have made it a living hell. Althought the bank took ownership in Nov they have not been offically evicted. They just started leaving after the drive by shooting.
Also, if you had your bike stolen you may want to check their backyard. There are still 18 bikes back there. That's not counted the one's they took with them and the one's they have put out for bulk trash.
