The gluttony is good for the Cape, inventory is down and population is growing, In addition crime is down as the Cape is considered to be one of the safest cities in Florida.

"Cape Coral has always prided itself on being one of the safest cities in Florida," City spokesperson Connie Barron said. "Even though we have seen a population growth over the last few years we have still been able to maintain the crime rate because we have a citizenry that works well with the police department."

Falling on knees begging for "buyers" to come:

Cape Coral uses Google to promote website

Search campaign will cost $10,000
"Our main goal is to get people to our Web site and let them know Cape Coral is a good place to live, to vacation and to start or relocate a business," Vxx said.

Cape Coral officials hope poster campaign piques interest

$100,000 was estimated to go to these firms for work done on behalf of the EDO Office, while an additional $40,000 was to go to them for work done on behalf of Parks and Rec.

The first run of 500 posters has been distributed, but the city has more to give away.

The goal is for anyone to share ideas about potential projects, give input and promote what the city has to offer.

"If we don't move construction then the economy is not going to move. The only thing that will move the economy is construction," he said.

"These folks are a breath of fresh air. These people are trying to do something that is very constructive and I have to take my hat off to them," Mayor Sullivan said.

Fabulous. The article says:

"When somebody goes to Google and types in certain key words, such as "business relocation" or "vacations," the city's Web page - capecoral.net - will be one of the options that pops up, Vogt said."

Better fire up the You Tube video, we are about to be inundated with "I want to move to Florida where it is warm and sunny all the time."

Why don't they take that money and use it to attract real businesses that will employ people and pay real money. Funny. A few months ago I had the choice of opening the shop in Cape Coral or Knoxville and I chose the latter due to the economic environment. Now, if I had an economic incentive...

Google search is great. I do not think, it will work out too well to lure investors to a collapsing economy.
But when one has specific questions like the below..of course, Google is your best friend.

Uncontrollable increase of Nile Lizards in Canals
Cape Coral's Chinese Dry Wall problems and cover-ups
Cape Coral's mountainous debt
Cape Coral's glut of houses
Cape Coral's house fires
City official's direct/indirect involvement with crime
Cape Coral's growth of povery
Cape Coral's water quality
Cape Coral's homelessness
Cape Coral's condition of RV parks
Cape Coral's commercial bankruptcies/foreclosures
Cape Coral's declining population
Cape Coral's harmfull spending on elephant projects
Cape Coral's grow houses
Cape Coral's economy/poverty/unemployment
Cape Coral's shrinking revenue
Cape Coral's garbage in canals
Cape Coral's hospital problems with hygiene
Cape Coral's loose dog attacks
Cape Coral's house fires
Cape Coral's schools
Cape Coral's problems with drugs
Cape Coral's problem with utility cost/coverage
Cape Coral's problem with theft..from large boats, cars to flat screen TVs
Economic recovery forecasts for Cape Coral

Please Google all issues and decide on your own if it is worth moving to Cape Coral.
Realtors, house flippers and desperate home owners will tell you whatever they can to get into your money or sell their crappy old houses !!

Another example of harmful spending:

" To spur economic development: to widen two miles of Pine Island Road for over $100 million" and property owners will have to pay for it, partially

"This is really cute. We're going to spend $54 million for a two-mile stretch of highway, and we're going to be paying $47 million in interest. Common sense left the building. I don't understand any of this," Councilman Erick Kuehn said.

Council's next step is to consider preparing an assessment plan for property owners who will help pay for the interest.

It would be a mistake not to prepare the assessment plan even though it could cost $50,000 to $70,000, Councilman Pete Brandt said.

• Schedule: Land acquisition starts in 2011. Construction in 2013.

• Issue: State won’t pay back interest on money borrowed by the city to pay for the project.

• Solutions: Acquire land donations to lower amount borrowed for land buying. Assessments on property owners who benefit. Divert some property taxes from the area to the project. Solutions require council action.

Cape Coral stalled on road project | news-press.com | The News-Press

With historically low population, with having debts over $1 bn, and having widened some other roads uselessly, it makes no sense to fall deeper into debt and put additional pressure on residents.

Yes, an economic bomb went off (much like it did in the 80's). Its hard not to see the damage. But it is still up the the citizens and business owners to work to set it right.

Some people are thus consumed. It's actually bizarre.

The unfunded liability continues to grow,” Pavlos said.

But money is tight. No general fund money is committed to the 2011 resurfacing plan. None was available in 2008 or 2009. This year $500,000 was available.

Gas tax income also has dipped in recent years from about $4.5 million in 2008 to about $4.3 million this year. Cape Coral’s share of the tax collected by Lee County is based on population, and the Cape’s has been declining.
