I would like real strait answer on the Naples Florida on mosquitoes, love bugs, insects etc. I live in San Diego, CA and thinking in moving & retire to The Sarasota, Naples Florida area. I hate insects, bugs mosquitoes etc. I just can’t imagine living my life spraying repellent onmy legs, arms; head to protect me from bugs & mosquitoes. In San Diego we don’t have anything like that. I take a very long walks about five miles daily in the morning and in the evening. I heard in Florida you can’t do that unless you spray yourself to avoid being biting. I like a response from people who lives in south west of Florida who experiences all of this insects bugs etc. Please give me your opinion about it. I can’t just pack and move to Florida and then hate it because of bugs. Your frankness is greatly appreciated. I also noticed that lots of homes on sale have Pons around them. Is this going to cause more problems? Should I avoid buying a home with pones or water close to it?

Yes, there are all those bugs and more. People are use to it, though and it is not that bothersome.

The morning & evening are the worst time of day for the mosquitoes. They will suck you dry if you do not either wear long pants & long sleeves or use some kind of repellent. Middle of the day they are not as bad. Proximity to standing water will increase the amount of mosquitoes.

Love Bugs come out twice a year for a couple of weeks. There is absolutely nothing you can do to avoid them, other than stay inside. Some areas will get a higher concentration of them.

Then there are the fire ants, palmetto bugs, silver fish, ..........

I'm in Cape Coral and we walk our dog daily and honestly the bugs aren't too bad. I don't know if they do a great job here compared to other areas, but they rarely bother us on our walks. On the other hand when I fish at night and I'm out on the water the bugs won't leave me alone. The mosquitoes out in the less/not populated areas are relentless. If there's not a breeze to hold them off then it's a nonstop battle with repeated applications of bug spray.

And in Naples, especially near The Everglades, the bugs are as big as Buicks. A forest ranger told me that in the dead of summer they spray themselves and then run to the truck.
