Hello, I'm interested in some first hand accounts of life in the cape coral area. My husband & I have a son who will be starting kindergarten this fall & we're thinking of moving sometime in the near future. He works in the restaurant industry & I own my own business. I understand that there are positives & negatives to all cities, large or small. However, we would like to make a decision based on all avenues of information, not just census data. I've spent every summer in Panama City Beach, FL at my parent's vacation home so I'm familiar with that area, but I know the state of FL is not one big PCB. A little bit of additional information about our lifestyle...very quiet, reserved family (our idea of fun is going to Walmart to check out new toys), no drugs or alcohol, & love the outdoors. All feedback, positive & negative, is greatly appreciated.

Well since you like it quiet and love the outdoors, you will most likely enjoy it here. It is NOT Panama City by any stretch, the weather isn't even the same. I will tell you that the schools aren't great and if you can find a job the pay isn't very good, but if you can get over that, I think it's a pretty good place to live. The restaurant industry is big here for about 3 months a year, after that it virtually shuts down until the next January.

Thank you! Can you give me a ballpark image of the cost of living? Rent, utilities, gas, etc...I know expenses are different for everybody but just a few round figures will do. Thanks again for your insight!

Cost of living is probably going to be pretty close to what it is now for you, maybe a little bit higher here.
