Oh we definitely have them here in Estero. We have one that frequents Fountain lakes. bobcats are pretty much everywhere in the country. i was talking to my dad up in MA a few years back in his yard at night. When I backed my car out, about 8 feet from me was a bobcat, I backed out and he was right near where i was standing, then took off into the woods. Yeah the hair on my arms stood up!!! It was about 40-50lbs.

Bobcats can be not-so-wary of people... Many years ago, I was driving near dusk on two sand ruts through the boonies in Monroe county and a large Bobcat was loping along in the right rut headed in the same direction. It looked back at us, but just kept on loping along.

We came up rather close, headlights on, and had to beep the horn before it would yield the right of way. It snarled over its shoulder at us before leaving the "road" and loping into the brush.

Default I saw a dolphin now too!!!

The one we saw was in the parking lot next to cars and he just stood staring at us before running into the perserve area. A couple of days ago I went to the beach and saw a dolphin. I feel really lucky to see the bob cat and dolphin all in my first month here. It is probably not unusual to see dolphins but I wasn't even looking for it. It looked really dark, almost black. I didn't know dolphins were so dark but it swam like a dolphin and had the dolphin fin.

I saw one walking down the street one evening, just before sunset. I thought it was a strange looking dog at first. (hey, I didn't have on my glasses!) It looked like this.

I get sad when I think of how much we've encroached upon their natural habitat, which is probably why we see so many wild animals near houses. There are even bears around here. When I was driving through an undeveloped section of North Port, I saw a lot of wild pigs.
