I've Googled routes and my choice is to go on (1) E State 80 or (2) take I-75 to Fort Lauderdale then up to W Palm Beach. The I-75 route is 60 miles longer but it appears to be mainly a freeway all the way. I'm not sure about the State 80 route, if it is one that has a lot of stop signs and little towns that I would have to pass through. I've only lived in Florida for 2 months so I am not familiar with these routes. Anyone who can give me advice or suggestions on my driving routes will be greatly appreciated! -a Floridian newbee!

You're better off going straight across Rt. 80. You'll save at least an hour (depending on traffic) and depending on where in WPB - tolls. It's not really that bad of a drive. Other than trying to get to Rt. 80, there are really not that many stop lights towns. Most of the drive you'll be looking at the sugar cane / sod fields. You may get behind a slow moving vehicle, but there are plenty room for passing. I would venture to say that there is less traffic going 80 than 75 (Alligator Alley) as more people will be going back and forth to Miami vs WPB.

DO NOT SPEED in Belle Glade area! It's another well known speed trap area.

Depending on you and your comfortable level - you may want to make sure you don't stop in Belle Glade. It's a rough country town, but I will preface this that we have stopped 3 or 4 times for food in Belle Glade with no issues.

I always take 80 and have never had a problem. You go though a few little towns but it isn't bad and much faster than going 75.

I've made this trip dozens of times in the past 3 years. Going straight across 80 is much better than going all the way around on 75. I usually set my cruise control at 8 over the posted limit and have never been stopped. Be aware of the changing speed limits on the route but I agree with the other poster about Belle Glade. Don't speed through there but once you made the right turn near the Sheriff's station, you are home free again.
