I just got an estimate for replacing a shallow well pump($1000+ electric and new pipes=$2000)
to drill a new deep well with all electric $5000

In the long run it would probably be cheaper to drill a whole new deep well, but right now we don't want to put that kind of money out, soooooo

the other option is to turn on the town water- any idea what that will cost/month to use for lawn irrigation?

Thanks so much.

Disclaimer - I live in the Cape...

For the amount of water needed to water the lawn - look for it to be an extra couple hundred or more a month.

If you use the recycled water in Cape Coral it costs only $9.50 a month. My sprinklers use the recycled water and can be used two days a week. But you can hook a hose up to the recycled water valve and use as much as you like. At least that is my understanding.

True, but I learned the hard way with bad information. I was told that the previous owners had the spigot on the side of the garage to be ran from the recycled water - so he didn't have to run the hose almost 100ft to wash his car.

Needless to say when I got the bill.... I found out that it wasn't the case

I should have probably worded it more like - "you're not going to save any money by using city hookup - more likely you're going to probably spend more than that 5k to dig the deeper well"

Default Irrigation water bill

I water my lawn on city water. I separated the bill however so I have one bill for the house and one for sprinklers. That way I don't have to pay for sewer and the other stuff on it. On a cheap month it's 100 extra. Depends. That's sprinkling 2x a week for 20 minutes.

Cape Coral homeowners who complain about the city council and the water utilities should take note. We are saving over $90 a month by having the recycled water to use. (Plus we can use unlimited recycled water with our hoses.)
