Any first hand experience buying shrimp direct off the boat in the Ft Myers area? Publix is too pricey and it's been previously frozen. I want the really fresh Gulf shrimp.

The only way to get Shrimp any fresher, is to eat them, while they are on the boat.

Take the last left before the bridge to FMB on San Carlos Island (Main st) there are a couple of seafood stores that sell shrimp right off the local boats.

I was told by the guys at one of the seafood shacks at the end of San Carlos Pass (bridge) that only sometimes are their shrimp "fresh" A majority of the time, they are frozen immediately after the catch, as the shrimp boats stay out for weeks at a time, so they freeze them on the boat? Is this true? Regardless... I have purchased shrimp from them many many times and it has ALWAYS been really good and HUGE. One time they were the size of small mammal. LOL
