Since I am considering becoming a full-time CC resident; curious how folks handle the bridge tolls? I currently have a Sun Pass that a family member passed on to me that I use when I'm in FL. But if I understand this correctly you can get discount plans with Lee Way. Since I may be commuting into Fort Myers daily for work, I'd probably take advantage of the unlimited discount plan. However, $730.00 per year for all 3 bridges is kind of steep. How often to folks travel over the Sanibel bridge? What about if you have multiple cars in the family?

Any advice is appreciated.

I switched over to Leeway because it's 50% cheaper, like $1.00 a day. We've only been to Sanibel twice in 9 months but we paid cash. Here's the link for the info, the crummy thing is you have to submit the info online and they do everything manually. It took about 10 days for them to send me the transponders.

How is it 50% cheaper? Unless you pay for a year upfront, the discount is only good on 2 bridges at specific times, and it's only 25%. Plus, you have to pay $20 / $10 for the transponder, depending on the variant.....

Variable Pricing

Paying electronically with a transponder and a LeeWay prepaid account provides the benefit of Variable Pricing, which means a 25% reduction on your tolls during off-peak hours, Monday through Friday*.

Stahl, I have the link. I just don't get how great this deal is if it all expires, is only good on 3 bridges, and you have to pay it up front. I guess if you daily did a commute, but then one would have to have a SunPass and a Leeway to cover all the other tolls. Is it really worth it?

There isn't an expiration that I know of. Essentially, go to the Leeway Center (it is confusing to get to it) and get the big transponder (not the window sticker) I do believe you will pay a deposit (not sure how much because it's been close to 4 years now). Each month, or in cases where you go over within a month, 30.00 will be deducted from your cc/account. Each October (for the yearly people) they will also deduct 40.00/yr fee.

If you don't use all 30.00/mo it won't charge till you get to the reorder point (5.00??). So, If you only spend 5.00 in the month - it won't charge till you get down to the min threshold.

We've had the same transponder since 2010 and just recently had to change out the battery - all we had to do was drive up to the service center, say what it was doing (weird beeps) and they figured it was the battery - got out, they got in changed it with no charge.

As far as adding the SunPass with it... purely preference. For us, we tend to travel a lot within Florida. Not knowing where all the local tolls that could all of a sudden pop up and scrambling for the toll. We thought it would be best to get the combo. There has been a few times where we headed over to West Palm Beach only to find ourselves on a toll road... glad we had the pass

You can add multiple cars on the 1 transponder, but make sure they have the info of each car that will use it. Otherwise, your looking at 200.00 fine (not sure if they first charge the 5.00 fee and if you skip that...) if they have to come to the courts to get their money. And that is per each time the "illegal" car goes under the transceiver. (We had let a friend borrow the transponder - not knowing all the rules about not letting others use it - and learned first hand experience about it.)
