You must be delusional to include Cape Coral with these other communities. Have you ever looked at a crime map? See many murders in CC?

I was thinking the same thing... comparing a city whose crime rate is half the national average to one that is more than double. Maybe she meant crime is spread out and not contained to just one area, but when she says wide spread it comes across as rampant. I would still disagree however it is extremely low crime in
NW, SW, and NE above kismet. most of the crime is contained in the del prado , hancock, cape coral pkwy area.

Cape Coral has 10% the amount amount of annual murders as FT Myers and it's population is more than double.

What I might agree with is if you took away Dunbar and Harlem Heights and some of those extremely seedy sections than the rest of Ft Myers crime is closer to Cape Coral.

it is funny how in one thread the cape is described as boring, nothing going on, sidewalks rolled up by 10pm and the next thread they'll make it sound like it's the hood.

Fort Myers (A.K.A Fort Misery, little Ohio) has always been known to be ghetto and high crime, its been that way for many many years,if for some reason someone has to move there, stay south of Daniels Pkwy.

I think some of the people who live in areas like Whiskey Creek would disagree. While there are pockets in FM that are not that swift, like every place else, there are some very upscale, safe areas too. It just depends on how much you are able to afford for a home. Move into a place like Pine Manor and you gets what you pays for.

I've lived in Cape Coral from 1976 until 2000 and I've been in Fort Myers ever since.......so I'm not delusional about the crime in Cape Coral. It's widespread throughout the city....there isn't a 'hood' or 'ghetto' area of Cape Coral like there is in Fort Myers.

I'm not just talking violent crime..i'm talking crime period. I suggest you chat with a LEO and get the facts from them...you'll see just how much crime doesn't make the news.

Parts of Fort Myers, not all of Fort Myers is ghetto and crime ridden. Anyone with half a brain knows where not to live in FM, can't say that about the Cape. You can't stay the NE Cape has more crime than the SE Cape because that wouldn't be true. I can say Pine Manor has more drug crime than Paseo and be 100% accurate....crime in Fort Myers is basically locked into certain areas and everyone knows those areas.

I have to say that the complexion of Cape Coral has changed a lot over the years. We moved there in 82 and it was mostly nice families who were looking for affordable waterfront properties and older folks. I was never afraid to take long walks very late at night, and didn't worry about crime much at all. But I saw that beginning to change as more and more people from places like Miami began to move in.

I haven't lived in the Cape for the past 8 or so years, but I work there, and it isn't the friendly little burg it was early on. Still not bad, but not like it was at all.

I would not feel safe walking in most of Fort Myers at night. I would feel safe in most of Cape Coral though.

Oh, I agree on that. I now live in FM and wouldn't walk at night without my .38 tucked in my pocket. Not sure I would walk in CC now either, though. Times aren't what they once were.

But I live in a gated community, so I would walk inside there with no fears.

The Dunbar area next to downtown Fort Myers might as well be called Lil' Miami. Nothings but drug dealing, robbing, gold toothed losers who are only out on the street because of our soft sentencing laws.

The 2 men involved in the shooting both are convicted drug dealing felons and in Florida it is illegal for felons to possess firearms.

The mother of the 5 year old is a convicted drug dealing felon. What do you expect from these people?
