Hi everyone. We are a professional couple looking to relocate to SW Florida from Queens, NY. We have 2 teens (16,17). Employment already established for one of us (Fort Myers Area). Our concern is primarily for our teens. Since this is a life changing experience for the whole family, we're only looking to rent until we feel well adjusted. Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of living costs, neighborhood safety, things to do for teens?

by the ages of your kids I would assume they have already demonstrated their hobbies, likes, dislikes. Try to find out what they are already involved in and keep them involved in it as quickly as possible. You picked just about the toughest age to move kids.

Things to do for teens?

Movies, mall, beach, hanging with friends, skateboards, wakeboards, school sports, clubs and organizations, same stuff you'd do in Queens pretty much.

First off thanks for the reply. My 17yo will be off to college by next yr and most likely she will dorm out of state. As for my 16yo, he's into bmx bikes / skateboards, stuff like that. Hopefully there are indoor ramps somewhere in SW Fla, lol. Yeah, I Know...I should wait til after they're all off to college before moving. Just tired of NY.

I'm from Bayside, NY. Cape Coral has a suburban feel not unlike Middle Village but less congested (and not as many cemeteries.) I moved to Long Island from Bayside and CC is very much like there. It is mostly residential with stores and malls on the main roads.
There is a BMX Bike track here. I would think fishing and boating would be the most fun though. Try to buy waterfront if you can. You most likely would have a pool that your teen can swim in most of the year. You might like to be in the SE as that is more urban than other areas.
