Heading down for week in about a month. I remember how orange/brown the water was in and around Ft Myers Beach a few years ago when they were releasing a ton of water from a Lake Okee. How yucky is the water down there now in comparison to the last catastrophe?

I just spent the past several days pleasure boating between Ft. Myers Beach, Naples and Marco Island.
We Did not encounter the brown water, but I'm sure it is lurking out there.

We were at Barefoot Beach today and it was great. No red tide or brown water. In fact it was one of the busiest beach days I've ever seen there. It was absolutely packed. The bad news for today, the water temp was at 65.

I have never thought our Gulf water particularly pristine as far as color. It always seems a greenish brown to me especially compared to some of the beaches on the East Coast.

Was out in the boat on Charlotte Harbor, Boca Grande, Cayo Costa. The water was its usual greenish blue color on Monday. Maybe not as clear as usual in the winter, but not brown. All the rain we have had in Jan. and Feb have had some effect on the water quality.

2013 it was a copper sludgy consistency in the bay. As long as it isn't as bad as that year, I am happy.
