I'm from NY, so I hear where youre coming from. Regarding culture , If VA let you down, I think FL will too. Only place I can think where there would be cultural diversity in FL would be Broward & Miami-Dade countys. ...definitely not on the west coast of FL. Cost of living: My primary reason for leaving NY was cost of living. You're right, it is almost impossible to have a high quality of life in NY unless you are making a six digit salary. Florida isnt as cheap as people from northern areas might think. The cost of housing is rising quickly due to high demand. Utilities are so much more expensive in FL than NY. My water bill is about $150 per month and electric isnt much less.
