Most of the world watched and prayed that you all would not be damaged by this storm but have to say it couldn't come much closer to our area in Fort Myers. I know a lot of you don't really care about us Northerners/ Snowbirds but just to give you all a first hand info from Ontario Canada. There is two Companies that have now left for South Florida - Ontario Hydro(Electric) and Ontario Power Stream Electric Company to help get you all back up and Going once again. Just wanted to let you know that your Canadian Neighbours are not wasting time. I pray that you all get power fast and are able to clean up what you can.

Thank you! There was a very large convoy of electric lineman bucket trucks coming south from Durham High Voltage of Ontario.

Thank you!! These guys are awesome, I don't envy them out in the FL heat restoring power! I've read some of them are sleeping in their trucks because hotels are filled up. They truly are heroes.

Thank you so much for thinking about us here is Southwest Florida.
As I drive around the area it is obvious that the damage was no where near what was being predicted.
I see more trees down than any other damage. There has been pockets of structural damage.
Leigh has flooding. Marco Island got the worst damage and power outages.
Cape Coral is in pretty good shape, just need all the power restored, but they are working on that and taking sections at a time.
I feel blessed that we were spared a heavier hit.

Me too - I was expecting to see catastrophic damage with roofs blown off and houses demolished. The stricter building codes that were implemented after Hurricane Andrew decimated Homestead have made a big difference in the amount of damage. Now if FPL & LCEC could start putting more lines underground that would be a blessing. I live in the south part of Gateway and we never lost power; I have to think that was because our utilities are underground. I was quite surprised to come back from my relatives' house (they have a generator) to find my condo unscathed. Lots of our beautiful oak trees are down but better some trees than people's house.

As for us not liking snowbirds - it's not personal. :-)

I am so glad to see that You all made it through it and there was no real problems. I myself enjoy your area and want to feel like a local but also understand the frustration too. I am so glad you all made an impact on Irma !
