Planning a trip to Sanibel soon. Not staying on the island because lodging is out of my price range on Sanibel itself, so I'll be staying in Fort Myers and driving over. Any areas of Fort Myers that aren't nice/safe that I should avoid when looking for a room?

If just over the causeway in Punta Rassa is also outside your desired price range, I'd recommend staying south of Daniels and west of I-75, preferably west of US-41, too. If Daniels is not doable, south of Colonial. Really just avoid anything near Tice or Lehigh Acres, Immokalee. Downtown Fort Myers where the new hotels are is okay if you want convenience with hotel proximity to walkable dining options but you'll be a bit further from Sanibel.
