Well...If she heads up Palm Beach Blvd a little ways (walking alone), she is likely to be mistaken for a prostitute (or a cop) trying to pick up Johns. This lunch time sting operation took place over a mile away though, at the Burger King at Palm Beach and Pine. I should add that I welcome any input from someone that actually knows the area first hand.

Police Officer Andrew Allen Widman

Quote:
January 12, 2010
The Officer Andrew Widman Act took its first step toward passage today when a House committee unanimously approved the bill. The bill would give judges the right to deny bail to any violent criminals who commit a felony while on probation. Widman was killed in July 2008 by a felon on probation.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Nick Thompson, R-Fort Myers, failed to pass the Legislature during the session last spring.
The House Public Safety & Domestic Security Policy Committee passed the bill today.

I walk down E. Riverside Drive, I would not walk by myself down Palm Beach Blvd. If I was with a companion, no problem. I have never had any issue going down First Street, I walk and ride my bike to the Farmers Market or to the coffee shops downtown. I am always aware of my surroudings and have never had a problem.
(oh and there would be no possible way I would ever be mistaken as a prostitiute .

Thanks for the reply. I see from your profile that you grew up in Fort Myers. Do you think that you are safer than visitors to the area because you know what areas to avoid?

No, not at all. I think I feel safer because I am aware of my surroundings and do not act ignorant.

Aren't you exhibiting knowledge of the area that a visitor wouldn't have with this statement?

I am currently a tenant at the Oasis Condo in the River District of Fort Myers and WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. When I moved in, I was also concerned about the location but was assured of the state of the art security 24/7. That proved to be false. In fact, one of the maintenance employees was hit by a bullet while cleaning one of the fountains in the front of the property. Thankfully he is ok but what a nightmare. In all honesty, there is no security here and I am considering breaking my lease to move.

My friend lives at Oasis, and the story about the maintenance guy geeting shot is he was at the front of the property on First Street cleaning a fountain and his knee was grazed with a bullet. The police concluded that it was a random bullet that was fired off as it did not penetrate the skin. It was a random incident. Even if Oasis had security, this incident could not have been prevented.

I live in the St Tropez just south of the Oasis. We just hired security to patrol our buildings because of a few incident of theft. We did not spend enough time loooking around before we bought and did not know we were so close to the undesireables. Opps did I say that out loud!!!!
