As of last year there was a moratorium placed on hiring new teacher in lee public schools. as this year gets closer to ending, does anyone know/have any inside scoop on whether this will continue to be the case for 2009-2010? Will lee school still NOT be hiring new or extremely few teachers? i dont know of any formal announcement that was made about not hiring last year, just found out by applying myself and speaking to others and finally was told, give it up no one is allowed to hire! trying to get some insight into what next school year may look like for certified teachers? thanks.

I don't know, this year I heard, student enrollment dropped for the first time ever in this county, by 1,000 students. The district is probably cutting back on teachers due to the budget cuts and the economy, but a few years, the county was growing out of control and not enough teachers were being hired. But this is happening all over Florida and probably the rest of the country too due to the economy and such.

Last I heard about a month ago, Lee was talking about downsizing staff. I work in Collier. They eliminated staff last year and outsourced the custodial staff. There are very few open position here as of now, and all new hires will only get a one year contract.
