Where are good spots to fish without a boat?

What are the common eating fish you might catch?

How are the seasons different?

Need a licence?

My husband fishes and I know that you do need a license. Usually we are in the boat. I haven't been with him when fishing off shore. Will have to ask him. We have cooked several fish he has caught.....can't remember what was best, but a lot of it has to do with how you cook it!

You can fish on private piers and you don't need a license. I was out on the peir at Ft Myers Beach, and you can rent poles and buy bait there. When I was there last week they were catching fish. You aren't allowed to fish for sharks, but when I was there, one gentleman caught a black tip shark! There are other fishing peirs that are leased, and those if you fish them, you don't need a license. It is hit or miss from what I know. If you are over 65 and a florida resident you don't need a license either.

Fish types will vary depending upon where you are fishing.
Good Luck!

There seem to be a lot of people that fish by the bridge between South Fort Myers Beach and Lovers Key. My husband has been there a time or two, but don't know the specifics. He has seen a lot of sea turtles there.

A lot of unemployed and homeless people fish on the bridges, its an adventure to say the least. Get a license and a free book from the county, as there are strict laws about what you can keep and what is in season.
