I just recently moved to Fort Myers for school but I don't like the "city" feel to it. Does anyone know of a more rural party of fort myers?

Head east........

Not everyone will agree, I'm sure, but to me there seems to be a different vibe to the "rural" feel in these parts.

South east, towards Immokalee, and Felda is a more agricultural feel. Crops in field, migrant worker vibe.

Strait east, out SR 80 (Palm Beach Blvd) out past Olga, and Buckingham area a mix of agri and livestock, very common to see cowboy boots, and hats in pickup trucks.

North east, toward Alva, and north, up SR 31 to Arcadia, more horse ranch, livestock, basic honest farmer sort of area.

This is just my opinion, others might have some more insight. You might need to explore a bit to see what "feels" right to you.

Yachtcare has spoken.......

North from Daniels, between Palimino and 6 mile slough, is close to action, but you will occasionally see gals on horseback, and Paseo has a goat ranch right across from the gate.

last time we saw one of the riders, she was texting on a blackberry while the horse was ambling along...laughed when we saw that

we used to hear a rooster from across the way...

there is everything from stilt-shacks to 10,000 sq ft mansions with stables in and around there

Theres an area called Labelle that's pretty country as well, along with an area in Naples called Golden Gate Estates. Good luck to you!

Alva is very nice. So is Buckingham. LaBelle is much further, but it's also a pretty town with lots of country estates. Depending on what your budget is, you can buy a nice house with acreage. Many homeowners have horses in these towns. You can also head toward Port Charlotte (exit 170 on the interstate) and go East which will take you to towns like Arcadia.

As above mentioned, there are many homes in Golden Gate Estates with acreage. You don't even have to leave the route 41 area to get a country feel. In Bonita Springs there's a section called San Carlos Estates where people have homes on very private lots, surrounded by trees. North Fort Myers also has some rural areas and there is a section between North Ft Myers and Punta Gorda that is a bit isolated called Tropical Gulf Acres.

Just to clarify that San Carlos is very suburban. Most of the homes are much older (for Florida). And most of the ones that I know have fairly small lots. There are established trees, though, due to its age.

Right now, it is also very affordable. Not all of the deals have been snapped up, yet. Which direction this area takes, though, is anyone's guess. It was always working class but safe. I am hoping that the lower prices will bring some nice families and retirees in and not undesirables, which is what happened in a good portion of Lehigh Acres.

As I'm sure "just Nancy" is pointing out, it is not city and you might be interested in it.

San Carlos Estates is not the same as San Carlos Park. Many of the lots are quite large and often people have horses. I specifically mentioned the area in Bonita Springs, not the section of Fort Myers off of route 41 called San Carlos Park.

Here is an example of a house in San Carlos Estates (http://www.floridarealestateinmls.com/property_information.asp?mls=200857666 - broken link)

and another

and another (http://www.floridarealestateinmls.com/property_information.asp?mls=201006808 - broken link)

It's very close to the city, but off the beaten path. Strike Lane runs right off of route 41 then crosses old 41 and suddenly you're in a quiet, rural area of Bonita Springs. There are all different price ranges from the high $100s to over $2 million.

The second link ask you to register. The other two homes are most certainly not in San Carlos Park. lol

I never even heard of San Carlos Estates before. Thanks Nancy.

Me, either. But you certainly didn't need to get all those links. I would have believed you.
