In response to more forum activity. There is a lot going on in this city. What are people's thoughts on the river proposals SWA is providing for us? They just presented their third meeting and have updated Renderings which I have provided below. One aspect of the river development that is not addressed is the old Omni Source property. SWA is saying that this could be land that can be used for a "big" attraction. However there still are some concerns on soil quality and it is a property that is not owned by the city yet. But something that could be a regional draw would be awesome. Ideas like an aquarium, casino, and indoor water park have all been mentioned.

Overall concept

Lawton Park Concept

Bloomingdale/Guldlin Park

Promenade Concept

Those rendering are small here. Here is a link to them. You can zoom in and see individual attractions labeled. Draft Concepts - Riverfront Fort Wayne

I saw those on (another development forum) and thought they were pretty exciting. Love that FW is dreaming big.

That's my thought on this (dreaming big). I know we have legacy money to spend on these types of developments, but in those renderings there is a lot of things going on. There would need to be a lot of private investment to make all of this happen.

Exciting stuff in my opinion. A beautiful area on the riverfront would be a nice draw. I think with these ideas and others, money will eventually come to Fort Wayne (in terms of Investors). I think the next step for our city's development is getting a large grocery store downtown. Perhaps if done in combination with a tall building offering new/nice condos and apartments and some other shopping more than one problem could be solved at one time (grocery store need, nice housing, more retail space).

With the Ash Brokerage project It will bring all of those aspects. There is plenty or retail if a grocery story were to come in to that project. There is a grocery store under the old Holiday Inn tower (which is now the Lamplight Inn). We'll see what tenants the Ash project gets. Lake City bank is on for sure at the moment. They still haven't filled all the commercial space in the Harrison building.
