and it is still completely inaccurate. For a city the size of Fort Wayne, it is doing very well, especially the downtown improvement projects. Arts United just announced today that it is purchasing a new buidling for its complex, giving yet another reason to spend time in downtown. I am sorry but no other place in Fort Wayne has such a wide array of restaurants from Toscani Pizza to Takaoka of Japan, above yet another downtown gem, Hall's Gas House, where on the same property there is yet another fun place The Deck on the river in the spring and summer. Henry's is a great bar and restaurant. I feel sorry for you guys if you haven't had a piece of pizza and a beer at Pint "N Slice on Calhoun, or a chicken salad sandwich at the Dash-In next door. The Brass Rail, though as hip as it has become, is a real destination for touring bands and a great place to see talent from all over the country before they break big.

Take a walk south on Calhoun around South Side High School and see some of the most cultural diversity in the city in the form of Asian restaurants, grocery stores, and businesses, right along with Latin American resturants, grocery stores, etc.

The people who say there is nothing to do downtown, I have to wonder if they have never got out of their car when driving through? Have they participated in any of the great programs the Main library has regularly? Have they not gone into the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, I mean it is free not once, but twice, on Thursday and Sundays, there's no excuse not to go. Have you guys really not taken the time to stop in at the Cinema Center and see some great films that the chain theaters won't show? Gone to Hyde Brothers Books (I know it is actually a little north of downtown)? Been to any bars other than Columbia Street and Flashbacks? Right now there is ice skating at Headwaters Park, which is a great place to take your family, significant other, nieces, nephews, whatever, and that kind of outdoor all-weather facility isn't offered anywhere else in the city.

I am beginning to think the people who keep saying in post after post about how the downtown Fort Wayne area is dead have not really taken the time to explore it and see everything that it offers, because it is so much more than the vanilla-ness of the SW, NW, and NE sides of town.

I have moved away from the Fort, and I miss many of the places Brainiac mentioned. Just to remind everyone, more to do also means higher cost of living, more traffic, more crime, just to start the list.
Fort Wayne is a great mid size Midwestern city where you can afford a nicer home, raise children, and live a more peaceful stress free life than most places with "nightlife"( that vague term referring to happening places and grade A bar hopping ) and an important downtown. Its a place of stability and moderation with a modest arts and entertainment offerings. But it does have them.

I am always surprised how people lose sight of the fact that no one place can be all things. I love AZ and all it has to offer, but I can tell you there is most certainly a trade off. Bloom where you are planted!

Well Toledo, OH comes to mind as a city that has a much more urban feel and better downtown than Fort Wayne. My point is that you named nearly EVERYTHING downtown Fort Wayne has to offer and it didn't even take up a half a page. The thing I hate most about downtown is that it is completely centered on cars. The speed limits are too high, roads are too wide, and there are even a lot of drive through restaurants everywhere. When people drive they don't even realize that pedestrians have the right of way over cars when the walk sign is on. It's not dense at all except for Calhoun Street, which by the way, is my favorite part. Yes, downtown Fort Wayne does have stuff, but if you went on a Saturday night, it's virtually dead.

You can not be serious. Urban feeling, maybe yes. Better? No way.

Toledo has long been a decaying city. The downtown is modest, at best.

everything that is has to offer? Not even close. Also, I filmed a music video downtown on Saturday night and had to constantly stop shooting because of pedestrian traffic. When was the last time you were in downtown Ft. Wayne? It seems like this information is coming from experiences five or more years ago.

Honestly? If you constitute one or two people walking as pedestrian traffic fine, I'll give you that. No where in downtown Fort Wayne is there a large, consistent flow of people walking around all the time. And I was in downtown Fort Wayne a month ago. With regards to Toldeo; overall Fort Wayne is better, but I just feel like downtown Toledo has more to offer and a much more urban feel, not to say that it's a good downtown either.

Restaurants, shopping, and probably living (apartments and condos) too. I also think they are getting a casino, but I'm not exactly sure. Keep in mind, I am not saying Toledo has this amazing downtown, I'm just saying I think it's better than Fort Wayne's. Fort Wayne definitely has potential, but it seems like there have been no solid projects proposed downtown since Harrison Square, which is a disappointment without apartments or retail.
