I have--and for an expensive gift that I returned...

found the receipt I got for the return showing the amount that went on the card...
but no card...no way to trace the card's ID and cancel it like a credit card that goes AWOL...

Cleaned out drawers looking for it--not with the other gift cards--
not in my purse in some hidden pocket...

found $200 in gift cards from last year that I had stashed in a drawer...
but have the feeling that this one (to Best Buy) was put out in the trash and is in the landfill in south Arlington...
feel so totally stupid--

I'm truly sorry for your loss. A couple of years ago, I lost a $15 gift card for PF Changs. When I received another card like it this year, I find myself determined to USE it very quickly before I lost it again. It's on my car's dashboard to remind me to use it. Your card still may turn up for you though. I hope that it does. You can still consider yourself very fortunate that ppl in your life thought about you so much that they even bought you a gift, if that helps.

My wife and I lost one several years ago and decided to use a container to store all of our gift cards. We try to get them placed there as soon as possible after we get them. We haven't lost one since. The thing that used to always get us was the service charge that began to hit unused card balances after a certain length of time. Thankfully, retailers have moved toward gift cards that never expire.
