Greetings (:

We're comin' to Texas. Because of my husband's job, we're not limited to living any particular place. We're also planning on spending some time living in our RV; so we'll have some flexibility to try a few places out -- but would love to start out in a place that is at least a fit for us on paper. We've looked a great deal into Tyler, Ft.Worth and some into Houston. I'm hoping for some sage guidance on other towns that might be a good fit for us.

From our experiences over the last few years, we know we want --

to live on a large parcel of land
in a green and wooded place
not more than a 30 minute drive from a moderately sized (75,000+ population, I suspect) town
with a good sized homeschooling community
who meets to play and socialize together regularly
preferably not more than 2 hours from of a large city
low crime/safe place

I'm also looking for a place to find some friends for our family. That's somewhat harder to pin to down to a place, of course (: And something that doesn't show up as clearly reading statistics about a town. But there are some places that are more homogeneous than others that we would have a hard time making friends -- I know this from experience.

For example, we lived in the country outside of Santa Fe, NM -- a city that is almost exclusively far-left politically and anti-Christian. We did make friends there, but it was a very hard row to hoe and not one that I wish to repeat. I know that Austin is considered to be a lot like this and so we're steering clear of there. On the other hand, we're not looking to move into a town where everyone is busy comparing everyone to see who wins The Best Christian contest, e.g. who wears the most modest outfit, whose church has the most Biblical worship, what literature is the most righteous to read, etc. etc. etc. I know that these kinds of "cultural" issues are harder to pinpoint than geography and topography (; However, I am hopeful that there might be some guidance out there for us (:

Thanks in advance!

You need to post in the Texas forum. Fort Worth isn't east Texas at all...
