I was very pleased with the process of voting at Keller City Hall - it took less than 5 min (well, 15 min after looking at all the kids art on display). If you are displeased with the current board's "leadership," then vote for Brad and Ruthie. Brad specifically campaigns for busing, and Ruthie is not an incumbent. Maybe the board will realize that some families have 2 wage earners, and the highest tax rates in the area (with magical millions appearing from thin air) should cover this service as it always has. I will vote against every current member for the next 3 years until they are all gone - it's just way to easy. Want to run for KISD next time? You got my vote...

My only problem with busing is that I don't want to pay taxes for someone else to send their kids to school. Call me selfish, yes, but that's the way I feel.

It's your right to feel that way - people without kids have been making that argument for years. You are paying for the desirability of your school district, which increases your property values. The money was there all along - this board used the issue to extort...

Were the "people without kids" not given a free public education themselves?

Wondering why they have some reasonable argument why they should be exempt from paying school taxes?

And you are wanting to lower taxes? And restore full bus service? ....LOL

a well-educated populace is good for everyone, including the childless. this starts with a strong commitment to early childhood public education.

as for Keller, i think their bus policy is bad for the ISD's image. As a soon-to-be relocator, i was really turned off by that, and it prompted me to look at other ISDs. It was a sign to me that the district had its priorities out-of-whack and/or did not know how to effectively and efficiently manage their budget.

I see your point on the free education argument, but I still wasn't happy when I was young, single, kid free and paying a bundle for something I felt I did not participate in.

However, I never said anything about lowering taxes. KISD has the highest by far, and then wanted to raise them quite a bit higher without true justification using bus service as a hostage. They literally would have had to find new places to dump money had that tax rate passed (like they did when $6 million "somehow" appeared - enough for 5 years of bus service when you factor in having to pay the low income busing anyway) . I feel we were lied to and unjustly penalized. The school pick up is crowded (wasting gas), the buses are empty (wasting gas), and the board still acts like it did did some good (full of gas). Boo!
