Hello all,

The home I'm looking to purchase (in Crowley), has a garage conversion. I've had a few people suggest the idea of a carport in front of the conversion to protect my automobile from hail, sun beating on it, etc.

What steps would I need to follow to see about having somebody build me one? I'm wondering if I need to contact the city of Crowley to get a permit.

I'm also wondering if this is the same to build a fence around my property.

Thanks very much for any guidance.

You will probably need a city permit for the carport but not for the fence, if there is a HOA they may have some rules to abide by. Watch out for setbacks, sightlines, and utility easements that might mess up the carport plan. Best way is to get a copy of the plat drawing and mark out where you want the fence and carport then go to city hall to see what they say.

PM me if you want the name of the guy I used on my house for a couple of projects.

Hi AsiaTrails, and thanks very much for responding!

Thankfully, I don't have an HOA to worry about that, but I would be interested in seeing the maximum height I could build the fence. I'd be happy with six feet, but want to make sure.

I'm not exactly sure what a plat drawing is? Is it something I could request from the seller? Is it the same as a survey?

I will definitely PM you for your guy, as I'm new to all of this and welcome any help offered! Thanks again!
