Can someone give me some feedback on the cities surrounding Fort Worth? Mainly to the west/northwest/southwest. My husband and I are looking to move to the area in the next year. We are coming from a small to medium sized town in Oregon. About 20,000 people. The closest, heavily populated city to us is Portland. About 300,000 people and that's 2 1/2 hours away at that. My husband is in the construction/building profession and will land a job in your area. We are not used to long, traffic filled commutes but will make due. It seems like your median home prices are significantly lower than ours so we will be buying in the $250-$300 range. Would like to be near a good private christian school for the kids. Low crime. Lots of outdoor activities. I guess I want the perfect package. Does it exist? Thanks for your comments and opinions. God Bless.

For a family friendly area I would go with northwest Tarrant County or Southwest Denton County. Depending on the property tax you want to pay Southwest Denton County, outside of Fort Worth city limits is the cheapest. The school district is Northwest ISD, one of the best in the area and in square miles the largest in the state. If you don't mind very high taxes, there is Keller, Grapevine, Southlake to name a few. All very nice areas, also with good school districts, but the taxes are considerably higher. In Southwest Denton County a $250K house will cost you about $4000 a year in property tax. Keller or Southlake you will pay about $8000 a year.
