We have two kids under two and we are considering going to move closer to my partner's family in Arlington, TX.

So we'd like to move into a nice 3br/2ba single family house in a safe neighborhood/suburb/city area within say 30 mins drive time of Arlington.

Any thoughts? What should I do to catch myself up on this area? It seems confusing to this outsider! Where would you look?

thanks!

Arlington itself is a well kept place populated by many retirees.
It all depends on your budget and what kind of pocket of culture you want to fit into at the end of the day.
On either side of Arlington are more rural or not so safe places.
Grand Prarie is known for cheaper prices and even mobile homes but you gotta have a good working car to get around there.
South Irving has had rental homes and while it's a bit rural in pockets, it has a public transportation system too.
You can check Craigslist to get an idea of house rental prices then ask the landlord about the"vibe".
Also look on google maps satellite and see if there are stores and places you would actually enjoy going to close to home. That's what really makes a place liveable.

What’s your budget?
Where will you be commuting to for work?

Arlington is in the very middle of the DFW metro area. There are many places to live within 30 minutes, but it depends on your budget and how long of a commute to work you are willing to tolerate.

You are lucky! Depending on where work is you would seem to have many choices. Check out Hurst, North Richland Hills, South Arlington (Martin HS) to start!

There are some good elementary schools in North Arlington. Zip code 76012. Arlington is lovely and a great value. The Martin High School attendance zone (zips 76016 and 76017) is also great. Kennedale is good, too.
