If you do not find a suitable unit within the 60 days, you can request an extension. I know first hand. My case worker told me this. This is in San Antonio, Texas.

I might add that there are other programs to help with rent that are not HUD. I know cause after I applied for my voucher and got it, 2 of the other places I had applied at called me. Google this and you will find so much. Keep in mind this all happened in 2018 before Covid so probably not so much available now. I have no idea.

Yes, I think if you do not find a property within 60 days, you can request an informal hearing and probably get an extension of 30 more days, but I am not sure you can get anything beyond that, and all of the tax credit apartment complexes that will accept the stipend have 6-12 month waiting lists, so even an extra 30 day extension probably would not be enough time.

Which other agencies do you refer? I researched this pretty exhaustively years ago. Aside from homeless shelters and public housing units, there is not much else out there in my experience. I talk to friends in other cities regularly, and they all tell me the same thing---they are at 98% occupancy or higher, and people with stipends cannot find properties to apply their stipends to.
