Hello, my child will be attending Frederick High School for the 2012/2013 school year. I am not familiar with this school - please provide me with any information/details positive or negative.
Thank You

GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community can give you a great overview. However, I would consider it one of the only inner-city like schools. It will be culturally diverse and you will have a range of educational opportunities. I know people that dropped out from there, or that went on to become honors students in classes. I would suggest going to walk around it or drive around it and see what you think. I bet you may be able to get a tour by the principal if you call and tell them your child will be attending there in the fall. Good luck!

Unless I'm missing something, I really wouldn't put much weight in the "Great Schools" website. One disgruntled parent can make a school look bad. Some of those reviews are written so poorly it looks like they were written by kids.

Frederick High has good teachers and administrators. The clientele of the school is a little questionable at times.

I believe the number the school is given is based upon test scores, the stars are from parents and you can't put too much stock into what they say. Definitely visit the school, maybe during school hours, and you'll get a flavor as to what it'll be like for your son!

Frederick HS is very convenient if you choose to live in the downtown areas of the city. Some of the best neighborhoods around downtown, like Baker Pk, feed into Frederick HS. Other neighborhoods feed into Governor TJ High, north of downtown.

FHS has probably the largest variety of courses in Frederick County. My daughter graduated from there about 12 years ago and it was very good then. In general I wouldn't have a problem with the quality of any Frederick County High School. Some of the larger ones offer a larger variety of courses but all are good schools. The biggest downside of FHS is that because it has been added to many times over it's 100 years of use it can be a maze to navigate! I always needed a map when going to parent conferences.
