There is a show where this dude spent like $400 and with coupons, he walked out spending only like $15.

Is this possible?

People spend thousands and pay less than that on the show. I'm sure it works. But how much time and effort does it take? And do you have room to store it all?

In my opinion, it doesn't work in real life. It's a made for TV thing.

I do use coupons but only if they are for things I would buy anyway. The coupons save me a few bucks every time I go to the store and that's about it.

I'm guessing it can work if one makes clipping coupons and bargain hunting a full-time job 9although I ask why these people on these shows just don't get a job in the first place).

I'd love to see the expression on a cashier's face in NY if you tell them you want to make 20 transactions because you have 20 coupons on the same 20 items.

I believe the show is BS too...notice they never really go into detail about how they get it down so much.

If you want to discuss this in greater detail, let me know.

The show you may have seen on TV is not reality.
I've used coupons for years and the stores have rules, restrictions, and limits, and some of what is shown on Extreme Couponing is what is called "made for TV."

A coupon I get may not be in your Sunday paper.
You may have XYZ store chain that doubles certain coupons and my store may not.

It is a "your mileage may vary" hobby.

There is no get rich quick plan. I can save 70-80-100% on some items. I've got a refrigerator and two freezers, so I can accomodate buying more than one of an item. Some items are good for stockpiling, as it is called, and others are not. Some items are on sale regularly and there are coupons for those items more than once a year, so no need to buy in volume.
Coupons help me save some money and get to try items that I would not ordinarily get to buy due to cost.

I got 10 bottles of Hz. 57 sauce for $12.90 and the regular price is $3.99 per bottle. So, I saved 68% on what is an expensive item.
And I had a coupon that saved me $1 on any meat if I bought Hz. 57 sauce.
I got 10 packs of ground turkey for free, due to the store's coupon policy and the sale and my coupons.

Let's see, 10 packs of meat and 10 bottles of Hz. 57 sauce for $12.90. It was like buying 3.33 bottles of Hz. 57 sauce at the regular price and get the other 6.66 bottles free and the meat for free.

This was talked about in several other CD forums and after many people watched the details they pretty much came to the conclusion that these peiople suffer some sickness. They have 40 years supply of Orange BBQ Rub simply because they were able to get them for near free. They buy crap food because that's what the coupons are for. They will buy diapers with coupons even if they have no babies. The houses look like stockrooms from a warehouse. When they show youtr their refrigerators and pantry you don;t see any wholesome foods. The general opinion is they will buy anything, shampoo, roach spray, salt, paper plates or whatever, even if they have no use for it. they buy for the sake of buying just to use the coupons. I agree, they are suffereing from an illness.

It's a sickness if they purchase and store a bunch of things they don't need.

If they were smart, the would turn around and donate those items to local charities and take the appropriate deductions. Buy $400 worth of stuff for $15, then donate $100 worth of it to charity. In a 30% tax bracket - that's positive cash flow.

the show is faked. when there are products available that you can get super cheap with coupons, they disappear right away. there is no way people could count on using all those coupons on one product.
