I have noticed over the past year or so that regular white paste sunscreen seems to be in the process of being phased out in favor of the spray-on type. From my experience the spray-on goes on splotchy, blows away during application, is mostly air, and runs out waaaaaayyyyy faster than the regular kind. I can use the same tube of sunscreen for a year if its the regular stuff, but the spray-on runs out after 5 or 6 applications. Sunscreen is expensive these days, and I need it to last. Has anybody else noticed this?
I think there is a conspiracy underway by the manufacturers with the goal of phasing out the regular and replacing it with higher margin spray-on sunscreen. I was shopping at Food City yesterday, and they no longer carry regular sunscreen. Instead they exclusively sell the spray-on stuff.
This is an asault on our frugality! Contact your local grocer and pharmacy and tell them to stock regular sunscreen or you will shop elsewhere!
I agree, I just don't think people realize how much less you actually get with the spray. I also prefer to have a choice, especially on a necessity like sunscreen
My gf was just saying we gotta pick some up for our upcomming trip. I love and hate the stuff.
It sucks because A you choke to death when you spray it on and B 90% of it blows away with the wind, however I hate all types of lotions, oils, etc just feels slimy and icky to me. Spray on sunscreen is the only stuff I can tolerate.
Update: I shopped at kroger this weekend and they have a nice selection of both types. Got an 8oz tube of kroger brand spf 30 for $3.
It lasts a year because I only put it on when I'll be spending hours out in the sun during the spring or summer, and most of the time I only apply to my face and shoulders. What does that have to do with anything anyway?
My wife & I frequent Hawaii every other year (we save our pennies and really travel low budget). Since we travel from Oregon in May after a long wet winter, we are lilly white and have to use sun screen a lot. Clearly, the spray on is much less efective and lasts about 1/4 as a container of goop. We have no use for it at all.
We start with lotion (worth slurging for Banana Boat Sport SPF 30) because it stays on for hours, even in the water. But a quick spray update every couple hours is much easier and nicer, especially if there is sand nearby.
My husband once bought the cheap store brand stuff. We were burned badly the first day and peeling before the week was up. Not worth it!
