I am curious how low you can go without cookware of any kind. I spent $30 a week but I had a microwave. $5 a meal eating out all the time is $420 for 3 meals a day, no snacks.
Salads and stuff on sale at Walmart will be your saving grace. Walmart always has food on sale that's old.
damn $500. lol. I guess if you have no cookware it would be completely different. We (gf and I) spend $50 a week. So $200 a month and that is probably half name brand items too. But we can actually make and cook legit meals.
In order to save money on the food budget, you learn to cook. If you are homeless, I guess you go on the raw diet. If you are not homeless, buy something to cook with.
i sometimes make salads or eat cereal/yogurt while at home
i think a crockpot would be a good investment
There ya go. A single person who can cook can easily cut your budget in half! That $5 fast food meal (perhaps more) can be made at home for far less with usually leftovers for the next day.
Get a crock pot, a hot plate, microwave, and a convection/toaster oven, plus a sauce pan, fry pan, and a few Pyrex bowls. They will cost you $200 or so between them new and you will save $300 in food costs your first month. If you can look at garage sales or on Craigs List you can probably get it all for around $50.
