I do not know how you come to that rash generalization. We use the freezer to store food that we have either produced or gleaned and it allows us to store food after the harvest. It also allows us to prepare food in bulk which means that we are a lot less likely to eat out which is 3-4 times more expensive.

Having the extra storage also allows us to stock up on food at a time when the deals are readily available. Also, we order food that is unavailable in this area and prefer to make fewer purchases as the shipping costs are high.
