Recently had to get some passport photos and the cost at CVS or Walgreens makes me laugh! $20+ for 2 passport photos in this day and age? If there was a platinum award for the master of rip offs, this one would certainly claim the grand prize.

Luckily for me, I went to AAA and got my passport photos for free with my membership, but otherwise oh my gosh. I cannot believe anyone is paying $10 per photo that costs 20 cents in supplies for them to print out.

OK, so charge $4.99 or $5.99 for 2, but $20? These people should be ashamed of themselves for running such a scam.

I know there are passport photo apps out there but I have not tried them out. Would like feedback.

Are you talking the cost of just printing two approved passport photos or did that price also include a store employee personally taking your picture?

You paid for them at AAA too, it just wasn’t broken out of the membership fee.

It's not a rip off. Not even close. Don't like it, don't buy it. Bargains are there, you just have to look for them. As you did.

I just don't understand this "everyone is ripping me off" mentality ...

It is called capitalism. It is part of what makes this a great country.

Everything's expensive. Either shop around or go without.

I had mine taken eight years ago at a local photography shop, the only place in town that takes the picture and prints them off. It was probably $25-30 and they gave me a strip of five pictures, though I only needed two. I didn't think it was overpriced for the service offered and I was in and out in ten minutes.

Such whining over $20 you have to spend what, once every 10 years? Are you in the habit of replacing passports more frequently than that? If you're so outraged, why haven't you gotten the app and done it yourself? There's a thread in this subforum already questioning whether life is expensive because more people don't DIY you might want to read:

Uh - you can take your own photo - and print the 2x2 for .99 cents - at just about anywhere.

So, yep, you got ripped off for being lazy, maybe, because 30 seconds of google would have told you this information.

You can upload your print - and have it mailed to you - and save the gas money. Passport apps take weeks or months to process, you'd have the print in a day or three.

This "rip off" - well...look in the mirror.

Not even close to a platinum award or a grand prize.

Not to mention the special equipment- background screen, software, and special cutter (NOT done by hand!) and the passport application itself.
